From Rising Tide Tours

Rising Tide Tours is a locally owned and operated eco tourism and water sports company in Providenciales. It specialises in stand-up paddleboarding, clear kayaking and private boat charters, with guided tours or self rentals, and keeps its guided paddle tours to small groups: in its own words, the lower the impact, the higher the reward.

The paddle eco tours explore the sheltered, winding mangrove channels of Mangrove Cay in the Princess Alexandra National Park, where guests see juvenile turtles, baby sharks, stingrays, young fish and birdlife in their natural habitat. Every tour starts with an in-depth paddle-technique briefing, no experience is needed for the signature two-hour tour, and young children are encouraged to come along.

The company was started by two cousins from Salt Cay, the smallest of the inhabited Turks and Caicos islands: Cheno Simons, a licensed boat captain and Level 3 Paddle Fit instructor, and Robert Jennings, its head eco guide. It uses only local guides.

The boat charters are private and fully customisable, from a two-hour run to a full day with a beach barbecue: snorkelling, island hopping, beach stops, light fishing, tubing and sub-winging, with whale watching from December to April.

The people behind Rising Tide Tours

Rising Tide Tours was created "to foster a unique brand of ecotourism through kayaking and paddle boarding (SUP) that exposes international visitors to the natural wonders of the Turks and Caicos, in the form of a profitable business that practices the principles of sustainable development."

Cheno Simons

Founder and co-owner

A native of Salt Cay, born to a Turks Islander father and an American mother. He spent most of his life in Atlanta, Georgia, but came to the Turks and Caicos every summer as a child, fishing and snorkelling with his grandfather and cousins, and took up permanent residency in September 2006. His aim is to grow the business while still educating guests, keeping groups small and leaving as little impact on the environment as possible.

What lives in the mangroves

The red mangrove channels of the Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve are a nursery for young marine life. What you might see, and when:

Juvenile lemon and nurse sharks
Young sharks use the red mangroves of the park as a nursery. Guests on these tours mention baby sharks and lemon sharks.
Sea turtles
Young turtles live in the mangrove channels; Visit Turks and Caicos names hawksbills among them. One guest counted over 20 turtles on a single tour.
Southern stingrays
They glide over the sand flats, and the National Trust notes them on the flats off Little Water Cay.
Upside-down jellyfish
Seen by guests in the channels, resting on the bottom with their tentacles facing up.
Turks and Caicos rock iguana
Endangered, and found only in this archipelago. About 3,000 live on Little Water Cay, where visitors stay on the boardwalks.
Pelicans, herons, egrets and ospreys
Brown pelicans, green herons, egrets and ospreys are seen over the mangroves and flats.
Glow worms
Bermuda fireworms, Odontosyllis enopla, light up sheltered bays and mangrove channels for about 20 minutes on evenings after the full moon.
Humpback whales
They pass through from December to April on their way to the Silver Bank to mate and calve.

From Visit Turks and Caicos (the Princess Alexandra National Park and glow worm pages), the Turks and Caicos National Trust (Little Water Cay), Rising Tide Tours, and guest reviews on Tripadvisor and Google.

Little Water Cay: Iguana Island

  • A nature reserve of about 116 acres, about 15 minutes by boat from Providenciales, or by kayak
  • Home to about 3,000 Turks and Caicos rock iguanas, an endangered species found only in this archipelago
  • Stay on the boardwalks, and never disturb or feed the iguanas
  • There are no bins: take everything back with you, as litter attracts rats, which destroy iguana eggs
  • No smoking, to keep fire away from the cay
  • National Trust admission: $20 for a short tour, $25 for an extended tour, $10 for Half Moon Bay; free for Trust members
  • Open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3:30pm

Rising Tide Tours' 4-hour eco tour visits the cay. Ask when you book whether the Trust's admission is included.

Glow worm nights

Visit Turks and Caicos puts the display on the third, fourth and fifth evenings after a full moon, for about 20 minutes, with the best time 55 minutes after sunset on an ebbing tide, and says location, weather, wind, tide and the moon all play a part, so sightings are never guaranteed. The week ahead on the water

Seven days at a glance for Leeward, where the paddles start: sunrise and sunset, high and low water during the day, the wind forecast, the moon, and the evenings to look out for. Rising Tide Tours plans private paddles around the high tide, the sunset and the glow worms, so this is the list to check before you ask for a time.

Paddling in a national park

Princess Alexandra National Park, declared in 1992, covers 9,494 acres of coast and sea off the north and east of Providenciales, from Grace Bay to the cays of the nature reserve, where the legal protection is stronger still. The Department of Environment and Coastal Resources enforces the law and licenses tour operators. What Visit Turks and Caicos asks of visitors:

  • No fishing, and no collecting conch or lobster
  • Taking shells, coral, plants, animals or sand needs government permission
  • Leave no litter, cigarette butts included
  • Power boats keep to 15 mph
  • Use a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sunscreen, or cover up, because many sunscreens harm coral
  • No open fires on the beach: portable grills only, with the ashes taken away

Rising Tide Tours keeps its guided paddles to 8 guests and enforces safe, sustainable practices on every tour: in its words, the lower the impact, the higher the reward.

Questions

What is Rising Tide Tours?

A locally owned and operated eco tourism and water sports company in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. It runs guided stand-up paddleboard and kayak tours through the mangroves of the Princess Alexandra National Park, paddleboard and kayak rentals, private boat charters and jet ski tours.

Where do the paddle tours leave from?

From Rising Tide Tours' private beach access in the Leeward Settlement, on the north-east side of Providenciales, past the end of Grace Bay. Call or WhatsApp (649) 246-5091 for directions to the meeting point.

Where do the paddle tours go?

Into the narrow mangrove channels of Mangrove Cay, one of the uninhabited cays of the Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve at the eastern end of the national park. Visit Turks and Caicos calls Mangrove Cay the most popular wetland destination for kayaking and paddleboarding, mainly because it is easy to reach from Providenciales. The 3-hour tour adds a beach stop to look for rock iguanas, and the 4-hour tour a visit to Little Water Cay.

What will I see in the mangroves?

Rising Tide Tours names juvenile turtles, baby sharks, stingrays, young fish and birdlife. Visit Turks and Caicos lists juvenile nurse and lemon sharks, hawksbill turtles, conch, stingrays, starfish and reef fish in the park's red mangroves, with green herons, brown pelicans, egrets and ospreys. One guest on Tripadvisor saw over 20 turtles, a shark and a stingray on a single tour in July 2026.

Do I need paddling experience?

Not for the 2-hour Paddle Eco Tour or the 3-hour extended paddle. The sunset and glow worm paddles need minimal experience, and some paddle experience is suggested for the 4-hour tour. Every tour starts with an in-depth paddle-technique briefing from a Paddle Fit certified guide.

Paddleboard or kayak?

Your choice, on every guided paddle tour: a stand-up paddleboard or a kayak, including clear kayaks.

Can children come?

Yes. The 2-hour tour is fun for all ages, and Rising Tide Tours encourages young children to join. On the 4-hour tour, children aged 8 and under are $150 rather than $200. One family wrote that, on a windy day, their guide towed their 9-year-old across to the mangroves.

How many people are on a tour?

Guided paddle tours take 2 to 8 guests. Private paddle tours take up to 10.

How much are the paddle tours?

On Peek, the booking page Rising Tide Tours uses, the 2-hour Paddle Eco Tour and the Sunset Paddle are from US$128.80 a person, the 3-hour extended paddle from US$145.60 and the 4-hour tour US$224 an adult. Rising Tide Tours lists the 4-hour tour at $200 an adult and $150 a child, so Peek's prices include 12% on top of the listed price. Prices as shown on 27 October 2026.

What should I bring?

A hat, a towel and sunscreen, says Rising Tide Tours. In the national park, Visit Turks and Caicos recommends a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sunscreen, or sun-protective clothing, because many sunscreens harm coral.

Can I see the iguanas on Little Water Cay?

Yes, on the 4-hour eco tour, which visits Little Water Cay to see the endangered Turks and Caicos rock iguana. The cay is a nature reserve and home to about 3,000 of the iguanas, which are found only in this archipelago. Visitors stay on the boardwalks and must not disturb or feed the iguanas. The Turks and Caicos National Trust lists admission at $20 for a short tour and $25 for an extended tour; ask Rising Tide Tours whether it is included.

When are the glow worm tours?

Rising Tide Tours runs its glow worm and full moon paddles two to three days after the full moon, when the glow worms spawn and may light up the water. Visit Turks and Caicos puts the display on the third, fourth and fifth evenings after a full moon, lasting about 20 minutes, with the best time 55 minutes after sunset on an ebbing tide. The calendar on this page shows the coming dates with sunset and moonrise for each evening, and the week ahead shows whether the tide is ebbing then.

What are glow worms?

Tiny marine worms, Odontosyllis enopla, also called Bermuda fireworms, that live in shallow, sheltered bays, channels and mangrove wetlands. The light comes from a glowing protein the females release with their eggs, according to Visit Turks and Caicos.

Is there a sunset tour?

Yes: a 2-hour Sunset Paddle for all abilities, a 2.5-hour private Sunset Charter by boat with drinks and a platter, and 2-hour guided jet ski or jet boat sunset tours, all watching for the green flash. Tonight's sunset time is on this page.

Can I book a private paddle tour?

Yes, for just your group: 2, 3 or 4 hours for up to 10 people, scheduled around the high tide, the sunset or the glow worms. Peek shows them from US$672 for 2 hours, US$728 for 3 and US$784 for 4.

What is included on a boat charter?

Every charter is private, with a captain, a first mate and snorkel gear. The 2-hour charter and the 4-hour bare boat come with a cooler of ice and no food or drinks. The Sunset Charter adds drinks and a fruit and meat and cheese platter; the Basic package soft drinks, rum punch, local beer, fruit, a meat and cheese platter and chips and dips; the Deluxe package a beach pick-up in the Grace Bay area, wine or champagne and a light grill; and the Full Day Beach BBQ ribs and chicken on the grill, with fish if the crew catch any.

How much is a private boat charter?

On Peek, per boat: 2 hours US$672 and the 2.5-hour Sunset Charter US$840, each for up to 4 people; the 4-hour bare boat US$1,120 for up to 4; the 4-hour Basic package US$1,344 and the 5-hour Deluxe package US$1,848, each for up to 6; and the 7-hour Full Day Beach BBQ US$2,688. Extra guests are $30 each, or $40 on the Deluxe package.

Where do the boat charters go?

Wherever you choose: the charters are fully customisable. Half days run along the generally sheltered north shore of Providenciales past Little Water Cay, Half Moon Bay and Fort George Cay. Full days can add the south side, with the shipwreck Rising Tide Tours calls La Familia, more snorkel stops, light fishing, sub-winging and a beach barbecue.

Can we add a subwing, tubing or fishing?

Yes. A subwing, tubing, sea scooters and bottom fishing can be added to any private boat charter at checkout on Peek. The subwing lets you glide underwater behind the boat at a slow tow and needs no training. Fishing permits are $12 a day for anyone 16 or older.

When can we see humpback whales?

Humpback whales pass through the Turks and Caicos from December to April on their way to the Silver Bank to mate and calve, and Rising Tide Tours runs private whale watching charters in that season.

Do they run jet ski tours?

Yes. The 2.5-hour La Famillie Express tour takes two Yamaha three-seat jet skis and a five-seat Scarab 165 jet boat, with a guide, through the Leeward canals past canal-front homes, to snorkel on the south side, look for turtles and see the shipwreck off Long Bay Beach. There are also 2-hour sunset jet ski and jet boat tours, and hourly self rentals in a designated area, which a guide can bring to your villa.

Can I rent a paddleboard or kayak?

Yes, short or long term. Delivery is free for rentals of 2 days or more, or you can launch from their private beach access in Leeward. Self rentals that leave from their dock come with an emergency phone.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel or change more than 48 hours before your trip for a full refund. Within 48 hours it is a 50% refund, and within 24 hours there is no refund, but you can ask for a voucher to use another time.

How do I book?

On Peek: the Book buttons on this page open Rising Tide Tours' own booking page for each tour and charter. Or call or WhatsApp (649) 246-5091, call the US line (678) 944-8193, or email info@risingtidetours.com. The glow worm paddles, rentals, jet ski tours, whale watching and fishing charters are not on Peek, so book those directly.

Who are the guides?

Rising Tide Tours was started by cousins Cheno Simons and Robert Jennings, both natives of Salt Cay. Cheno is a licensed boat captain, divemaster and Level 3 Paddle Fit instructor; Robert is the head eco guide. Guests on Tripadvisor also name Mario, Zeke, Primetime and Kenson.

How does Rising Tide Tours keep its impact low?

Its guided paddles take no more than 8 guests, and its guides enforce safe, sustainable practices on every tour. Visit Turks and Caicos calls paddleboards an ideal eco-tour craft because they have very little environmental impact. In the national park, taking conch, lobster, shells, coral or sand is not allowed, and power boats are limited to 15 mph.

Does the tide matter?

Rising Tide Tours can schedule a private paddle around high tide. Today's and tomorrow's tide times, whether the tide is rising or falling right now, and the week ahead with high and low water in daylight, the wind forecast and the moon, are all on this page, from a tide model for the waters off Providenciales.

What do guests say?

Rising Tide Tours is rated 5.0 out of 5 on Tripadvisor from 270 reviews, 266 of them excellent, and 5.0 on Google (both checked 27 October 2026). One guest wrote that their guides "knew exactly where to take us so we could see as much sea life as possible".

The guide says

Locally owned eco tours by stand-up paddleboard and kayak through the mangrove channels of the Princess Alexandra National Park, plus paddleboard and kayak rentals, private boat charters and jet ski tours. Paddle tours leave from a private beach access in Leeward.
